Shugo Tokumaru's new record is just plain wonderful! Great melody after great melody and beautiful intricate arrangements that always keep you guessing. This is the best record that I have heard in a very long time.

Shugo's warped lullabys have been totally compelling to me in the contradictions they resolve. The surface of his music, often seemingly simple and childish, equally as often cloaks rigorous complexity. It comes from a deep understanding of traditional forms and styles, but this knowledge is employed towards completely modern ends.
The arrangements unravel in several directions at once, recalling Morricone at his most whimsical by the spare means of six strings, a shaker and a coo. It is economic music. There is nothing superfluous and no affectations. Everything is in service to the songs themselves and the shaded moods each evokes.
His willingness to be playful at times confirms both his humility and his mastery. These are records to keep returning to, giving back as much as the listener is willing to invest.
